Wolfentstein 2 - The New Colossus
Bethesda announced at E3 that the Wolfenstein franchise will return with Wolfenstein 2 - The New Colussus. This is the follow-up to 2014's The New Order, and sees the uprising against the Nazis taking place in the USA. More details and release date to follow when available.

Far Cry 5 Announced

Quake Champions - Sacrifice
The Quake Champions beta has added a new game mode - Sacrifice. This is a 4 vs 4 competitive team mode and sounds a lot like the old KTeams and similar mods that we played back in the late 90's. This is going to be the primary game mode for e-sports in the future.

BobLAN 2017.1 Roundup
This weekend saw a few new games enter service, with a few old favourites falling by the wayside. By far the most popular newcomer was Titanfall 2, which saw many hours of gameplay. DOOM also made a good showing. We did try Battlefield 1 but only for a couple of hours. Not sure why - it played really well and the visuals were stunning. Similarly, we only played the Quake Champions beta for a short time. CS:GO and GRiD Autosport proved as popular as ever, and the Rocket League tournaments returned (albeit with a good deal of mincing between matches)

Games that didn't feature included Day of Defeat, HalfLife DM, Team Fortress 2, Battlefield 3 and Left4Dead. However, the biggest surprise was the return of Unreal Tournament 2004, last played in 2009. We hadn't played it for a while as it didn't work with more recent versions of Windows, but somehow it worked fine in Windows 10.

Needless to say, the hosting of the LAN was awesome - great work Bob and Lynda! It was also great to catch up with all the guys who travelled from far and wide to be here. Let the countdown begin to the Autumn BobLAN!

I'm sure some old favourites will crop up too, eg:

Quake Champions Duel Mode
A new game mode called Duel has been added to the growing feature set of the closed beta of Quake Champions. Read more about the Duel mode on Plus Forward.

Having played the game a bit during this weekend's beta session, all I can say is that it's fast - they really have captured the spirit of the original game. I'm not sure I like the Quad countdown timer though - having to count the minute in your head if you were the Quad runner was a major part of the role!

BobLAN 2016.2 Roundup
Another LAN is over, and we have to wait six months to start again! We all had an amazing time, and it was over all too soon.

So what games got played this time round? Some old favourites like CS:GO, GRiD, TF2, L4D2, Rocket League and Rockband made an appearance. Newcomers included the wonderful DOOM, and DiRT3 in CTF mode. Regular games that didn't appear this time included Battlefield (we tried to get BF1 working, to no avail), Day of Defeat, Titanfall, HalfLife 2 DM and QuakeWorld. Hopefully by next time we'll all have Titanfall 2, and also Battlefield 1 working in multiplayer mode.

Finally, Bob - you are a legend. Fantastic hosting and facilities as usual, hence gamers travelling from either end of the country to be part of it. It was great to see everyone making the effort to get there and be part of it all!

BobLAN 2016.2 Update
With the LAN at the halfway stage, we now have a good idea of the range of games being played. We've seen old favourites such as CS:GO, L4D2 and GRiD, and some newcomers like DOOM and Dirt3. As always, the hosting and facilities are top rate!
