Steam Launched
HalfLife and CounterStrike updates (1.1.2.0 and 1.6 respectively) are now available via the new Steam system. This replaces the the traditional separate updates for HL and CS. When you install it, you get a brand new installation - not an upgrade to your existing installation. If it detects you already have HL installed, it will import your basic config settings, but not any other scripts you may have setup.

You can download the Steam Installer. The larger file (379MB) contains both HalfLife and CS. The smaller file is the online installer, and will install the games you want over a broadband connection.

It seems much has changed, both in game and behind the scenes. Steam Auth is replacing WON as the authing mechanism. Only time will tell how successful this proves to be. Future updates also appear to be via Steam only - not sure whether installation files will be available or not.

In the game itself, the whole look and feel is slightly different. Better console, menus etc. Some maps have bits added. Commands added for quick buying, so no need for buy scripts anymore. Simply bind keys to the new commands. New CT equipment in the form of a Riot Shield. Expensive, but looks fun.

On the server side, it looks like they haven't got the LAN code implememnted correctly yet. A LAN needs to be connected to the internet in order for LAN clients to be able to connect, which is not right. Hopefully this will be fixed prior to our LAN in October :)

BobLAN October 2003
The date for the next BobLAN has been set - it is the weekend of 24th October. (The clocks go back that weekend, so we get a bonus hour :)). Running from Friday to Sunday, the LAN should see the usual mix of FTP, RTS and driving games, aswell as pizza, curry, rinky dink and beer.

All clansmen are welcome, and please make sure you generate us some pizza money by buying stuff from our affiliates.

Expected software versions:
  • BF1942 - 1.45.18
  • Desert Combat - 0.4j
  • HalfLife - 1.1.2.0 (Steam)
  • CounterStrike - 1.6 (Steam)
  • MOHAA - 1.11
  • Ghost Recon - 1.4

BF1942 v1.45 Patch Out
I know this post is a bit late, but better late than never.

There is a new patch out for Battlefield 1942 - version 1.45.18. It is mainly bug fixes, plus support for the forthcoming official mod Secret Weapons.

Download now from our FTP Server. The full point release is 107MB, and the update from v1.4 is 50MB.

BF Mod - Star Wars Galactic Conquest
A new BF1942 mod has been released for alpha testing. Star Wars Galactic Conquest puts you in the world of George Lucas, flying speeders and Tie Bombers, manning laser turrets, or you can camp with a sniper rifle if that is your bag.

At just short of 300MB it is not small, and the alpha code is a little laggy, but certainly worth a go.

DirectX 9.0b Released
Microsoft have now released DirectX 9.0b for general download. Grab the installer, and that will perform an online installation of just the parts that are needed.

BF Map - Battle of Britain
New map out for BF1942 - Battle of Britain. Axis fly in and aim to destroy key allied buildings. Allies must prevent this. Download from our FTP Server.

Desert Combat Updated
The popular BF1942 mod Desert Combat has been updated to add support for the recent v1.4 patch of the main BF1942 game.

You can grab the updated Desert Combat from our FTP Server (version 0.38a, weighing in at 326.8MB)

BF1942 v1.4 Patch Out
There is a new patch out for Battlefield 1942 - version 1.4.
You can grab it from our FTP Server.

Note that the current version of Desert Combat will not work correctly with BF1942 v1.4 - an updated version of Desert Combat is expected shortly.

The changes are mainly bug fixes and minor gameplay enhancements.

DFC Affiliated to GAME
DFC have been accepted as an affiliate of GAME - the web site of the popular retail chain. We get a small commission on sales generated by our site, which may well come in handy when the pizzas are delivered at the next LAN :)

See the affiliates page for details.

We've also applied to Dabs for partnership. As a clan, we do spend quite a lot of money at the two places, so recognition of that with a small commission would be most welcome.

GAME.NET CounterStrike Night
It was another good CS night over at GAME.NET. Turnout was better than previous weeks, and a good game was had by all.

Check the diary for the next BF1942 games.

Games Nights at GAME.NET
Fancy a good game of CS? How about a bit of Ghost Recon? If so, head over to GAME.NET and check out the diary of events. There is plenty going on, and DFC members are to be found getting thrashed on GAME.NET servers.

For the weekly Ghost Recon event run by DFC's Mesmer and Trebz, check out the event forum thread.

DFC Site back!
Well, after a long absence, the DFC web site is back - this time in PHP/MySQL format. I suppose we'd better start playing some games to write about again :)

DFC Site Moved
As a result of the uncertainty of the future of BarrysWorld, the DFC site has moved to MesmerWorld. MesmerWorld offers ASP and database which will enable DFC to continue with its active content.

Team Lists at BarrysWorld
BarrysWorld have recently launched their Team Registration service. Any BarrysWorld member can register a team, which is made up of any number of BarrysWorld members.

DFC have registered themselves. Find our details here.

You can also view the full Team List

Not that we had anything to do with it or anything ;-)

England out of Euro 2000
England 2 - 3 Portugal,
England 1 - 0 Germany,
England 2 - 3 Romania.

Once again we fail at football. :-(

Goblin Pulls
EvilGoblin has gone and gotten himself a girl....those of you who know Gobs to be the vulgar and smelly little man that he is will be shocked at the amount of effort he puts in to be charming in her company.

The courtship was well worth the price of admission as two more drunk people have rarely been seen together. Nice one. :-)

DFC Web Site Move
This site has today moved home as part of the BarrysWorld hosted site restructure. If anyone notices any problems with the site as a result of the move, eg broken links, please mail Mesmer.

BobLAN 2000 Roundup
The Easter LAN party at Bob's (aka Lynx) was a resounding success. Much beer and food was consumed by all, and many games were played....including the hugely popular "bar football" game :)
Thanks to Ben (Ted the Dog) for a celebrity appearance, and the rest of the DF Clan for making the effort (even Friday's footy was great !).
Quake 3 Arena put in a healthy (and surprisingly popular) showing......and of course lots of UT was played by all.
Unfortunately driving games were a bit thin on the ground, but a few decent Motocross madness tournies satiated some of the angst.
The longest "sess"'s however, have to go to the mammoth AoK games that seemed to go on forever,.....certainly into the early hours of every morning that I can (barely) remember !!
I am crap at AoK, but I enjoyed them immensely.

A good time seemed to be had by everyone that turned up.....thanks to Bob for his hospitality again......and to everyone that made the weekend a success.

EvilGoblin
Gobs not only smells of poo poo but is also a sweaty hob-goblin from hell - he is also ugly , can't play games to save his tribe and doesn't even know what a beer is - need we say more ?
